Whether your its your 1st time to hire a painter or you need to find a new painter- this guide for interior painting is meant provide you with everything you need to know about painting estimate, answering the most common questions, products to use and share our 3 step process to make things a simple as possible to help your with your painting needs.

What to Look for When Hiring a Paint Contractor

I belive you start with knowing who you are hiring!

Are they a real business?
Do they have a website?
Do they have any on line reviews?
Is the company insured?
What products will they use?
Is the work warrantied?
Will the scope of work or estimate be clearly written?
Are the workers going to be there every day till complete or will they work several jobs at the same time?
Do you know who will be doing the work?
How long have they been in business?

These are all things that should be easy to find our, or be available to you before you ever have a contractor in your home.

Personally, It is my wish to be able to work with and help every single person that wants their home or business painted. That also is not possible. We are looking to to work with you in your painting project and add you to our family of raving fans. You can read about our pricing, our services, we are pretty transparent about who we are and what we do, which includes pricing as much as possible. We want you to be educated as much as possbile from start to finish on what we think a paint job should look like and how much it should cost so you can make a decision you are comfortable with.

Your time is valuable– it is the one asset you cannot get more of. As you get estimates for your painting you want to find the right fit for you and your family. Cost is not the only thing to base a decision on. Painting your home is a investment!! I do not want to waste your time or money. If for any reason you feel a contractor is not a good fit for you, (and to be very open- you may not be a fit for us either). It is ok to say NO!! That is why there are 100 different types of drinks in the beverage isle at Jewel!

How long will it take to paint my house?

My Father in Law would answer or quip something “It’s like what kind of underware are best- Depends”.

Are we painting 1 room or many?
Are we painting walls only?
How Much Drywall needs to be repaired?
Do the Doors and trim need to be painted?
How many coats of paint will you need?
Is there new trim that needs to be filled and caulked?
How big are the walls or rooms?

When providing an estimate to paint your home, each of these questions will affect the time it takes to paint your house.

When we are doing our paint estimates for your home, we use a Measuring (or Metric) based Estimating System. This means that we measure or count what is being painted. All of these numbers are used with industry standards from The PCA (Paint Contractors Association) that keep up to date tables of how long it takes to paint a given surface. We are not guessing. All of our employees and contractors are expected to meet or exceed these standards.

Other factors also include the weather. High and Humid days will affect the dry times of paint.

I am not sure What Colors to Paint my House- can you help?

I have a joke or line I have used for all the years I have Been Painting.. (if i could use it for a tag line I would – but we wont)

Every Person has their personal taste and likes when it comes to color. We dont try to pretend we know how to pick colors, we are painters and artisans- not designers. However we do know that there are several factors that affect colors:

lighting
eye color
flooring
furniture

You can use Free on line design help from Sherwin Williams or have a in house designer from JC Licht come and help you. Of Course youCan always find your own designer to work with as well.

How much will it Cost to paint my house?

Just like a carpenter, we are going to measure twice so we only have to cut once. All of our Estimates are based off items and size. We call this Metric based Estimating.

Every wall or surface that is being painted has a time attached to it, as well as how much paint or tape an area will need.

Average rooms are about $400-800 to have painted. There are seveal factors aside from size that determine the cost to paint a room such as:

Are we painting walls only?
Will the base trim be painted?
Is there crown Molding to paint?
Amount of repairs that need to be fixed
How many doors and frames need paint?
Do we need to paint crown molding?
Will windows need painting
How much furniture needs to be moved?

We are pretty passionate about having painters in your house that you can trust. So to help you feel comfortable with our paint crews;

What Kind of Paint do you Use?

We get this question alot, and we have to ask clarifying questions. Do you mean Brand, sheen or grade of paint?

Lets start with the easy part- The Paint brands we use. For the MOST part- We use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore paints. We have had customers ask us about using Behr and Pittsburgh, which we can use, but it is rare.

The next Easiest is Question to answer is Paint Sheen. Each Brand and Grade of paint (ie Duration and Emerald) has their own Sheen level. It is very confusing! We do have a printed brochure we can show you on the Sheens offered by Sherwin Williams. There really is. not a good way to show you these sheens with out physically seeing them.

Finally, we Talk about Grade of Paint. We break them down to Good, Better and Best. These come down to budget more than anything else. There some exceptions such as cabinet paint and paint for bathrooms.

It is all about choosing the right paint for the right surface that fit your budget. For example Duration and Aura paints are great for Bathrooms. Urathane paints such as Emerald and Advance are perfect for Cabinets and trim.
