How it goes

How the job goes, step by step

  1. Count and price

Count your doors and drawer fronts, put them into the estimator, and you have a real range in under a minute.

    Instant estimate

  2. Walkthrough

We count door, drawer, face, handle and hinge counts, check the existing finish, test adhesion, and confirm color and sheen. A whole house exterior or a full cabinet kitchen can take an hour.

    What happens at your estimate

  3. Written scope

After the walkthrough you get a written scope with the number, the products, the coats, the prep included and the schedule. No pressure to sign in the room.

  4. Quote hold and deposit

The price we quote holds for 30 days. A 50% deposit books the work. We accept cash, check and card. We do not offer financing.

  5. Remove, label, prep

Doors and drawers come off labeled, get degreased, sanded and bond-primed. Boxes and frames get done in place with the kitchen fully contained.

  6. Two finish coats

Two finish coats of cabinet-grade coating, sprayed on the doors and drawer fronts.

  7. How long it takes

Typically three to five working days. You keep the use of your sink and appliances the whole time. Doors and drawers are off for most of that window.

  8. Rehang and adjust

Everything goes back on, hinges adjusted so the doors line up, and we walk the kitchen with you before we leave. The written warranty is five years on painting, with the terms on your estimate. Cabinets are warranted only where proper prep was possible.

Pricing

How cabinet refinishing is priced

Priced by door, drawer, face, handle and hinge count, plus a materials base

Count your doors, drawers, faces, handles and hinges. Then choose the optional on-site spray setup or oak grain fill if they apply. Cabinets use a flat itemized sum, with no condition, coats or color-change multipliers.

Questions

Cabinet refinishing questions, answered

How do I know my cabinets are worth refinishing?

This is the single biggest factor in which direction makes sense. If the boxes are solid wood or good quality plywood, sit square, and the doors are not warped or delaminating, refinishing gives you a real transformation for a fraction of what new cabinets cost. Water damage at the sink base, swollen particleboard, or doors that no longer hang straight are signs the boxes themselves have a problem, and paint will not fix a structural issue. We will tell you honestly during the estimate if we see box damage that makes refinishing a bad investment.

Why is refinishing priced by doors and drawers?

A kitchen with 20 doors and 8 drawers is a different job than one with 40 doors and 15 drawers, even if the two kitchens are similar square footage. Each door and drawer front has to come off, get labeled, get sprayed in a controlled setting, and get rehung with the hardware aligned. The work scales with the number of pieces, not with the size of the room. That is why we price refinishing by counting doors and drawers rather than quoting a flat number per kitchen.

Do you spray or brush cabinets?

In practice, most of our cabinet jobs use a mix. Doors and drawer fronts get sprayed for the smoothest possible finish, since that is the surface people look at and touch the most. Boxes and face frames get finished with whichever method fits the space and the containment we can achieve in your kitchen that day. We will walk you through exactly what to expect on your specific cabinets before the job starts, not after.

Can I see a sample door before you do the whole kitchen?

We usually finish a sample door, or a spare drawer front if you have one, in the actual color and sheen you are considering, so you can see it under your own kitchen lighting for a few days before we commit to the whole job. Cabinet photos and paint chips look different under a kitchen's mix of daylight and overhead light than they do on a screen or a store sample board. This step also lets you feel the finish, not just see it.

Are the boxes and face frames priced separately from the doors?

Doors and drawer fronts are removable, so they can be sprayed off site in a clean, controlled environment, which gives a smoother factory-style finish. Faces and end panels are counted separately, while any on-site work has to be contained and protected around the kitchen. Some kitchens need the optional on-site spray setup, while others can have their removable pieces handled in a controlled area.

Does the condition of my cabinets change the price?

A kitchen with the same door count can price differently depending on what shape the cabinets are in. Cabinets with grease buildup near the stove, water damage near the sink, or swollen MDF panel edges from years of moisture need repair before they can be sprayed, and that adds time the door count alone does not capture. Newer cabinets in better shape, or ones that were already painted rather than a factory stain finish, generally take less prep to get to a sprayable surface.
