Installing wallpaper in a multi-story foyer?
In our last project, we had a home that had a 3 story foyer! That made for an interesting wallpaper installation with three men on hand to get the job done the right way.
Once we had all of our scaffolds in the home, we started to set it up. Drop cloths were placed on the floor, we removed all light covers, electrical outlet covers, door bells, thermostats and light fixtures. We then sanded and primed all the walls with wallpaper primer.
Now that we had our scaffold up, we had wallpaper ready and all hands on deck. We started the install. Shawn Lawler (of Hangs Like Paint) was a great asset for the work on the tallest walls and odd shaped corners. Zac (our youngest crew member) was in charge of the wallpaper pasting machine, which pulls the wallpaper through it and pastes at the same time. I played in the middle part of the scaffold. Hand it up and hold it until the wallcovering was in place. The tallest of walls were close to 300 inches long! Add wallpaper paste to that, and they get very heavy and awkward.
Above, you can see the close-up of the wallpaper that was installed, a picture of the walls that had wallpaper installed on the stairwell, foyer and tallest sections of the walls.
Once completed, the picture above shows the final results. The customer had darkly stained planks installed on accent walls. Doesn’t that dark wood make our wallpaper look amazing? The designers at VARA Design made our job easy by working with the clients to choose the wallcovering, paint colors, working with the remodeling contractor in selecting planks, decorative accents, scheduling, ordering and countless other tasks that I am not even aware of.
