What is Wallpaper?

People either love or hate wallpaper because of their experience with it. But somebody else’s bad experience does not necessarily have to be yours, too. Discover what is wallpaper and understand what you need to achieve the best results with different wallpapers!

“If you had a bad experience with wallpaper, it’s usually because of some bad installation.” – David Cook

Wallpaper for Your Home

Wallpaper is no longer something that you can stick to a wall in your home. It comes in various designs and can be used for your bedroom, living room, kitchen, ceiling — almost anywhere.

It is also made up of different materials. Some can be made of paper at the front and fabric at the back, while others are made of the opposite way around.

Different Types and Sizes of Wallpapers

Wallpapers come in different types. The most popular ones are commercial vinyl. They are heavy and wash well. The other two other types are digital graphics and grasscloth.

“How wide [a wallpaper] is can help determine how much you are going to need.” – David Cook

Typically sizes are 20.5 inches x 27 inches and 30 inches x 36 inches. It varies on the manufacturer of the brand supplier. So as you can see, not all wallpaper is the same.

Nailing It With the Right Primer

Not sure how much you will need for your home? You can work with a designer, paint store, and/or installer to help you out.

Apart from the type and size, you also need to consider the primer you need to use. Wallpaper primers are different from paint primers. Understand what you need to do first and follow the instructions.
