Using Wallpaper and Paint together
Have you ever walked into a room and felt an instant sense of peace? We have been told that One of the secrets behind creating cozy space lies in using wallpaper and paint together . By pairing these two elements, you can transform any room into a space you will enjoy! .
So lets see some ideas for effectively using wallpaper and paint together!
1st let’s talk about Color Relationships
Before we jump into pairing wallpaper and paint, let’s take a moment to understand the basics of color theory and its relevance to creating visually pleasing combinations. Color theory is the study of how colors interact with one another and the impact they have on our emotions and perceptions. By harnessing the power of color relationships, we can create a harmonious visual experience. (sounds good right- well that is because we have several great designners we work with)
Complementary colors are positioned opposite each other on the color wheel, such as blue and orange or green and red. They create a striking contrast that can infuse energy into a space.
Analogous colors, on the other hand, are adjacent to each other on the color wheel, such as blue and green or yellow and orange. These combinations offer a more soothing and unified effect. Monochromatic color schemes involve using different shades and tints of a single color, creating a sense of depth and subtlety.
When pairing wallpaper and paint, it is crucial to consider the undertones of both colors. Undertones are subtle hints of color within a hue. For example, a beige wallpaper may have warm undertones of yellow or cool undertones of gray. Understanding undertones helps ensure that your wallpaper and paint colors are compatible and create a cohesive look.
Wallpaper as the Focal Point
Wallpaper can steal the show and set the tone and style for an entire room. When choosing a wallpaper pattern or design, it’s important to think about the overall look you want to achieve. Do you prefer a traditional, contemporary, or eclectic vibe? By aligning the wallpaper with your desired style, you can create a solid foundation for the room.
There are many different wallpaper styles and textures. From Floral or damask patterns to grasscloth textures each us unique and can be paired with complementary or monochromatic paint colors to really pop. If you’re into a modern and bold atmosphere, geometric or abstract designs can be combined with contrasting paint colors to make a batman BAM statement. The key is to find a balance between the wallpaper and paint, what you like and then allowing them to complement each other.
When selecting wallpaper, we typically send people to JC licht stores or use one of the designer we have partnered with. They get you in the right direction!
Choosing Paint Colors
When selecting paint colors to accompany your chosen wallpaper, there are several factors to consider. Undertones play a vital role in achieving a cohesive and visually pleasing result. You want the undertones of the wallpaper and paint to harmonize rather than clash. To ensure compatibility, pay attention to the warm or cool undertones present in each color and seek a balance between them.
If your wallpaper has warm undertones, consider selecting a paint color with cool undertones from the opposite side of the color wheel. For example, a wallpaper with warm shades of red can be complemented by a paint color with cool blue undertones. This pairing creates a vibrant and balanced look.
By selecting paint colors within the same color family as the wallpaper, you create a seamless flow of hues. For instance, if your wallpaper features varying shades of blue, opt for a paint color that harmonizes with the blues, such as a soft gray or a gentle seafoam green.
If you are like me almost all of that is greek! Do they look good together- great! This is why I do not select colors. We have several designers we work with that can work with you to help select the right combinations to help you making your house a home.
Perfecting the Match: Combining Wallpaper and Paint for a Stunning Impact
Pairing wallpaper and paint is an art that can transform any room into a harmonious and visually stunning space. By understanding color relationships, considering undertones, and selecting complementary or analogous color combinations, you can create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing look. So, let your creativity flow, try different combinations, and embark on a journey to create your perfect match of wallpaper and paint for a truly enchanting space!

How Much Does It Cost to Install Wallpaper in the Chicago Area?
As we were working last week doing a wallpaper installation, we received a call asking for a price to install wallpaper in a bathroom. The customer asked us several questions about our pricing. We in turn had to ask the customer a few questions such as:
What are the dimensions of the bathroom?
Is the room painted or does it have wallpaper needing to be removed?
Have you selected a wallpaper for the room yet?
What type of wallpaper has been selected? (Grasscloth, self stick, commercial)
The answer we received for 3 of these questions was “we are not sure”. Do the size of the room and the wallpaper being installed really matter to give an estimated cost to install wallpaper? Yes, it does.
Wallpapers all require some prep work.
Some call for specialized primers to be used prior to installation.
Self Stick wallpapers have issues with paint that are low VOC
There are different requirements for the type of adhesive or glue to be used.
Depending on the wallpaper it will take longer to install as various wallpapers require them to be wet (pasted with glue) to allow the glue to set up time prior to installation.
The cost of wallpaper in the Chicago area can vary also depending on the location, i.e. downtown will be more due to travel, parking building restrictions etc.
How do I know how much wallpaper I need?
This is the question that comes up at every wallpaper installation and estimate. To find out we will:
mesure each wall, ignoring any openings
verify the paper be ing used and how much paper is on a roll
look at the repeat if any
figure out the width of each panel
determine how may pices we can get from each rolls with the needed waste and repeat
So…what is the cost to install wallpaper in the Chicago area?
There are some wallpaper installations that are fairly simple to estimate. And without getting into too many details which may just really bore you, expect to pay about $680 to do an installation. There are always fixed costs such as:
materials to apply primers and adhesives
standard insurance policy
and of course taxes.
This may not answer all of your questions regarding cost to install wallpaper for your home or business, but it is a start as to what we need to know what is the minimum cost for an installation in the Chicago area.
Planning to refresh your home’s look? The choice and /or wallpaper and paint is tricky, especially if you’re thinking of investing in professional house painting or residential wallpaper installation. This decision shapes the look and feel of your space in big ways. I hope we can shed some light on this topic for you based on our experience as painters and wallpaper installers. We will share the pros and cons of both options, and get tips on durability, budget, and even eco-friendliness. So if you’re on the fence about wallpaper versus paint, lets see if we can help! .
The Case for Wallpaper in your home or business
Why wallpaper? First off, the design options are nearly endless. Whether you’re a fan of florals, geometric shapes, or even custom artwork, there’s a wallpaper out there for you. The variety of patterns, colors, and textures can set the mood and theme of a room in an instant.
Another big plus is the depth it can add. Unlike paint, some wallpapers come with textured designs. This texture creates layers of depth that can make a room feel more spacious and luxurious. If you’re looking to add some personality and flair to your living space, wallpaper has got you covered.
High-quality wallpaper is also a durable choice. Some modern wallpapers are designed to be scratch-resistant and easy to clean. That means your stylish walls can look new for years, even in homes with kids or pets. Commercial wallpaper is meant to last for 10-20 years! (go to a doctors office and you will see what 20 year old wallpaper looks like lol)
Lastly, wallpapers can serve more than just a decorative purpose. Some come with added features like soundproofing or thermal insulation, making your home not just beautiful, but also more functional.
The Case for Paint in your home and business
So, why should you choose paint? One word: versatility. Paint offers a rainbow of color options and a variety of finishes, like flat, matte, semi-gloss, and high-gloss. This means you get to be the master of your space, choosing a vibe that matches your personal style. Whether you’re after a soft pastel bedroom or a vibrant living room, paint allows you the freedom to make it happen.
Paint excels in creating a clean, cohesive look. It’s ideal for minimalists who love open, uncluttered spaces. Without patterns or textures to break it up, a painted wall offers a smooth backdrop. This makes it easier to plan decor and furniture around, essentially turning your room into a blank canvas to fill as you please.
Ease of application is another big win for paint. Unlike wallpaper, which can be tricky to align and adhere, paint is pretty straightforward. All you need are some basic tools and perhaps a weekend to transform your space. And if you ever make a mistake? Just paint over it!
When it comes to your budget, paint usually wins. The upfront costs for paint and supplies are generally lower than those for wallpaper and installation. Plus, if you’re a DIY person, you can save even more by painting the walls yourself.
Comparing Durability and Maintenance
Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of long-term care: durability and maintenance. Both wallpaper and paint have strong points and weak points. Knowing what to expect can help you make a choice that suits your lifestyle.
A high-quality wallpaper can be like that durable toy you had as a kid—it can last for years, or even decades! However, durability is often linked to quality, so be prepared to invest a little more for a wallpaper that goes the distance.
But what about upkeep? Wallpaper, especially the textured or patterned kinds, can be a challenge to clean. Think about it: spilled spaghetti sauce or crayon marks from a toddler can turn into a major cleaning project. You can’t simply wipe it off or touch it up with a dab of more wallpaper.
Moreover, if it gets torn or starts peeling, you’re looking at some detailed repair work or a full replacement of the damaged section. So, while it has a long life, it does require careful handling.
One of the big pros of paint is how easy it is to maintain. Got a scuff or a stain? A simple touch-up can make it look brand new. Paint is forgiving like that; you can clean it easily and even scrub it if you opted for a washable finish.
However, paint isn’t a forever solution. In high-traffic areas like hallways or kitchens, you might notice wear and tear sooner than you’d like. The color can fade, and scratches or dings can appear, which means you might be repainting every few years.
In essence, paint offers the ease of maintenance but may demand more frequent updates, especially in busy parts of your home.
By knowing what to expect in terms of durability and maintenance from wallpaper versus paint, you can make a more informed decision. Whether you prioritize longevity or easy upkeep can help tip the scales in favor of one option over the other.
Wallpaper Versus Paint: Cost Considerations
When it comes to home decor, your budget plays a big role. It’s like shopping for a car; you have to think about both the initial price and the long-term costs. Let’s break down the budget factors for wallpaper versus paint to help you decide.
Starting with wallpaper, the initial costs can be higher. Why? Well, quality wallpaper comes with a price tag. Add in the cost of professional residential wallpaper installation, and you’re looking at a more significant upfront investment. However, there’s a silver lining. Good-quality wallpaper can last a long time—years, even decades! So, when you spread the cost over its lifespan, it might not seem that pricey after all.
But don’t forget, if your wallpaper needs repairs or if you want to change the design down the road, it could add to your long-term costs.
On the flip side, paint is generally easier on the wallet initially. You can even make it a DIY project to save on labor costs. Paint, brushes, and rollers don’t usually break the bank. But here’s the catch: you might find yourself repainting more often than you’d replace wallpaper, especially in areas that get a lot of action like kitchens and hallways. That means buying new paint and spending time or money on the application. So, while it’s cheaper upfront, the long-term costs can add up if you find yourself redoing it every few years.
In summary, wallpaper might have a higher initial cost but offers durability, while paint is more budget-friendly at first but may require more upkeep and reapplications. So, think about both your short-term and long-term budget when making your choice between wallpaper versus paint. It’s all about finding a balance that works for you and your wallet.
Which Looks Better for Your Space?
The way a room looks and feels can really affect your mood. That’s why the visual impact of wallpaper versus paint is super important. Let’s dig a little deeper into how each one shapes the atmosphere of a room.
Wallpaper has the power to take you places—whether it’s a cozy country cottage or a sleek, modern loft. With the variety of patterns, textures, and colors available, wallpaper creates a distinct mood right away. Want to make a room feel bigger? Choose a wallpaper with vertical stripes. Want to add a sense of luxury? Go for a textured wallpaper, like one with velvet or silk elements.
Wallpaper allows for bold, unique design choices. You can pick a detailed mural for an accent wall, or opt for a subtle pattern that adds depth and texture without overpowering the room. So, if you’re all about making a strong design statement, wallpaper is your friend.
If wallpaper is like a bold fashion statement, then paint is the classic little black dress—elegant, timeless, and always in style. Paint offers a more subdued beauty that complements other design elements in the room. You have a wide array of color options, from muted pastels to vibrant shades. You also get to pick the finish, whether you like it matte, semi-gloss, or high-gloss.
One of the best things about paint is its ability to create a cohesive, harmonious look. You can easily match the wall color with your furniture, curtains, and other decor. Plus, paint allows you to experiment with techniques like color blocking or faux finishes for added visual interest.
At the end of the day, your choice between wallpaper versus paint boils down to your personal design style. Either way, both options offer their own unique aesthetic perks. It’s all about what speaks to you!
Wallpaper Versus Paint: Practicality and Room Usage
It’s not just about looks; you also have to think about where and how you’ll be using either wallpaper or paint. Every room in your home serves a purpose and has its own set of challenges. Here’s what to consider:
Wallpaper brings a lot of style to a room, but it’s not ideal for every space. Take bathrooms, for example. They get steamy and damp, which isn’t great for wallpaper. It can start to peel over time in humid conditions. Similarly, you might want to think twice about using wallpaper in a kitchen where it could be exposed to grease and food splatters.
However, wallpaper shines in living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas—basically, spaces where you want to create a unique atmosphere. It’s also a good fit for low-traffic areas like a guest room or study, where it won’t suffer much wear and tear.
On the other hand, paint is pretty versatile. It can go just about anywhere, from your living room to your bathroom. Paint is especially useful in high-traffic areas like hallways and staircases. Why? Because it’s easy to clean and touch up. You can simply wipe down scuffs or marks. If you need to, you can even do a quick repaint of a section without much hassle.
In places prone to moisture like bathrooms or basements, you can choose specialized paints that resist mold and mildew. And let’s not forget kitchens; a semi-gloss or high-gloss paint finish is easy to clean, making it a smart choice for walls that might get a bit greasy or splattered.
So, when you’re picking between wallpaper versus paint, think about the room’s purpose and what you’ll be doing there. Is it a busy area? Is it damp? Answering these questions will help you make a choice that’s not just pretty, but also practical.
Sustainability and Environmental Factors
Going green is more than just a trend; it’s a responsibility we all share. When you’re deciding between wallpaper versus paint, you can also consider their impact on the environment. Let’s break it down:
Many brands offer wallpaper made from recycled or renewable resources. You can even find options that use water-based inks and adhesives. But, remember to do your homework. Check out the brand’s practices and how they source their materials.
Disposal is another thing to think about. Some wallpapers can be recycled, but others can’t. Again, this depends on the materials used and whether they include any non-recyclable components like certain adhesives or finishes.
As for paint, there are eco-friendly choices too. Low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and zero-VOC paints are better for both your health and the planet. VOCs are chemicals that can pollute the air inside your home. They’re also not great for the environment. So, look for paints labeled as low-VOC or zero-VOC for a greener choice.
When it’s time to get rid of leftover paint, don’t just toss it in the trash. Many local recycling programs accept paint. Some even take it for free and recycle it into new paint or use it for waste energy. If you live in Elgin, IL, you can easily dispose of leftover paint through the At Your Door service.
So, whether you’re leaning towards wallpaper or paint, you have green options. Just be sure to read labels, ask questions, and think about the long-term effects. Making an eco-friendly choice doesn’t just help you; it helps our planet too.
In the end, choosing between wallpaper versus paint is all about what fits you best. No matter your choice, it will shape the look and feel of your space for years to come. Consider what you like, weigh the costs, and think about how the room will be used. Taking these factors into account will help you make a decision that suits both your style and practical needs.

Wallpaper, with its diverse patterns and colors, just makes a room pop. As of this writing, it is one of the hottest trends on home decorating. As with other items in the home, taking care of wallpaper can be tricky, so we wanted to do a quick post about Wallpaper Maintenance.
Why Wallpaper Maintenance Matters
Proper wallpaper care is essential to maintaining its appeal and longevity. Whether you’ve chosen vinyl, fabric, or traditional paper-based wallpaper, each material has unique maintenance needs. By paying attention to these needs and practicing preventive care, you can keep your walls looking fresh and stylish for year to come.
Wallpaper Maintenance: Step-By-Step Cleaning
Routine cleaning is the foundation of wallpaper maintenance. Follow these steps to ensure your wallpaper stays in pristine condition:
Dusting: Start by dusting the wallpaper with a soft, lint-free cloth or a feather duster. This removes loose dust and prevents it from settling into the wallpaper’s surface. If you have Grass Cloth wallpaper- dust and light suction is your only method of cleaning.
Gentle Cleaning Products: Use a mild cleaning solution consisting of warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the wallpaper.
Spot Cleaning: Address stains and smudges promptly. Gently blot the affected area with a clean cloth or sponge dampened with the cleaning solution.
test it! make sure what your using wont scuff the surface.
Wallpaper in Busy Spaces: Wallpaper Maintenance in High Traffic Areas
High-traffic areas like hallways and kitchens require special attention to maintain wallpaper’s beauty. Here are some strategies:
Protective Measures: Consider adding a chair rail or wainscoting to shield the lower part of the wall from scuffs and marks and plastic corner guards for corners.
Furniture Placement: Arrange your furniture strategically to prevent it from coming into direct contact with the wallpaper. The careful placement of furniture can help reduce the risk of scuffs and marks.
Traffic Flow: Encourage a smooth traffic flow through the room to minimize unnecessary contact with the walls. This can help prevent accidental damage.
Protective Coatings: Some types of wallpaper allow for a clear coating to be applied right to the wallpaper to help with those high-traffic areas. These protective layers act as a shield, guarding against stains and wear caused by frequent use. They can be done in the field- but we would say-have it done at the factory!
Regular Inspections: Frequently inspect high-traffic areas for signs of wear or damage. Catching issues early can prevent further deterioration.
Regular Cleaning: Increase the frequency of your cleaning routine in high-traffic areas. Dust and wipe down these areas more frequently to prevent dirt and grime buildup- light cleaning, not heave water, NO hot water as that may re wet the adhesive.
How the changing season can affect wallpaper
Seasonal changes can impact your wallpaper, especially if you live in an area with varying temperatures and humidity levels. Here’s how to address these seasonal challenges:
Humidity Control: Use a dehumidifier in high-humidity seasons to prevent moisture damage. Conversely, consider a humidifier during dry seasons to maintain the wallpaper’s integrity. Kind of like your hard wood floors or crown molding, the seasons can affect the expansion of certian substraces which can affect the wallpaper. Too much humidity can also cause mold behnd wallpaper.
Temperature Fluctuations: Avoid exposing wallpaper to extreme temperature fluctuations, which can cause it to expand or contract. You don’t want changes to temps cause moisture to get on or under the wallpaper!
Inspections: Look for any signs of damage or peeling, and address them promptly.
Addressing Issues and Repairing Wallpaper Damage
Even with the best care, wallpaper can sometimes suffer damage. Here’s how to handle common problems:
Tears and Bubbles: Small tears or bubbles can often be repaired with wallpaper adhesive. Smooth them out gently to restore the seamless look.
Peeling Edges: If the wallpaper begins to peel at the edges, use adhesive to reattach it. Apply a thin layer behind the affected area and press it back into place. WHEN- paper peels from an outside corner, a good solution would be a croner guard.
Professional Help: For extensive damage or if you’re unsure about repairs, consider consulting a professional wallpaper installer or repair service.
Preserving Your Wallpaper
Maintaining beautiful wallpaper doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With regular cleaning, careful attention to stains, and awareness of seasonal changes, you can enjoy your wallpaper for years. Remember to address any damage promptly and consider long-term care strategies for added protection. By following these tips and seeking advice from experts when needed, you’ll ensure that your wallpaper continues to enhance the beauty of your living space for years to come.
So, take a proactive approach to wallpaper maintenance, and you’ll be rewarded with walls that remain both inviting and visually stunning.

Understanding what to look for can be a game-changer, significantly impacting the final look, durability, and longevity of your decor. This article serves as a guide to help you navigate your way to the best paint and wallpaper brands in the market.
Understanding Paint Quality
The quality of paint is determined by two key components: pigments and binders. High-quality paint typically contains more pigment and binders, providing better coverage and durability.
Pigments provide the paint with its color and opacity. The better the pigment quality, the better the color consistency, coverage, and durability.
Binders are what make the paint stick to the surface. Higher-quality binders adhere better and are more resistant to issues like peeling, chalking, or blistering.
Paint Brand Features to Look Out For
When choosing quality paint brands, consider the following features:
One-Coat Coverage: Top-quality paints often require fewer coats to fully cover a surface, saving you time and money.
Durability: High-quality paints stand up better to cleaning and don’t fade, ensuring your walls look great for years to come.
Low VOCs:Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are harmful chemicals found in paints. Quality paint brands offer low or zero-VOC paints, making them safer for your home and the environment.
The Right Paint for the Right Room
Different rooms have different paint needs. For example, kitchen and bathroom paints need to withstand humidity and frequent cleaning. High-quality paint brands offer specific products tailored for different room requirements.
Understanding Wallpaper Quality
Similar to paint, not all wallpapers are created equal. The quality of wallpaper can be determined by its material, print quality, and durability.
The type of material used in the wallpaper largely determines its quality. Different materials are suitable for different conditions and uses:
Vinyl wallpapers are durable and washable, making them suitable for high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms where moisture and spills may be common.
Non-woven wallpapers are breathable, helping to prevent issues with mold and mildew. They’re also tear-resistant and easy to remove, making them ideal for high-traffic areas or rooms that may require more frequent redecoration.
Natural fiber wallpapers, made from materials like grasscloth or silk, offer a rich, textural aesthetic to a room. However, they require more care and are not as resistant to damage or staining as synthetic wallpapers, so they are best for low-traffic areas that remain relatively dry.
When we talk about print quality in wallpaper, we are referring to the precision of the printing process as it relates to design clarity, color definition, and pattern repetition. High print quality ensures that your wallpaper will have a professional, aesthetically pleasing appearance, and it often indicates a more durable and high-end product.
Let’s delve deeper into what print quality in wallpaper means:
Clarity of Patterns: High-quality wallpaper will have distinct, crisp patterns that are well-executed, with sharp lines and clear details. This means that the design printed on the wallpaper won’t appear fuzzy, blurry, or indistinct. It requires high-resolution imagery and precision printing techniques to achieve this level of clarity, which is often a sign of a high-quality product.
Well-Defined Colors: The colors of a high-quality wallpaper should be vibrant and well-defined, meaning there shouldn’t be any unintentional fading, discoloration, or blurring between colors. The color should be consistent throughout the pattern and should not bleed into adjacent areas of the design.
Pattern Repeat: This refers to the distance between the start of one pattern and the start of the exact same pattern again. In high-quality wallpaper, the pattern repeat should align perfectly from one strip to the next during installation, creating a seamless look. If the pattern repeat does not match up, it can cause a jarring visual effect and disrupt the flow of the design. This match-up is crucial for intricate patterns or designs that need to flow seamlessly across the wall.
A quality wallpaper should be durable, easy to clean, and resistant to fading.
High-quality, durable wallpaper should not tear, scratch, or puncture easily, meaning it should be able to withstand everyday interactions without significant damage. Durable wallpaper is especially important in high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, or children’s rooms, where the wallpaper may be subjected to more physical contact.
Quality wallpaper should also be able to withstand regular cleaning without the color fading or the material deteriorating. This is especially crucial in areas like the kitchen, where potential splashes from food or drink could stain the wallpaper, or in a child’s room, where the walls might get dirty more frequently.
Another aspect of durability is fade resistance. Colors should remain bright and the patterns clear even after prolonged exposure to sunlight. Fade-resistant wallpaper is especially important in rooms with a lot of natural light.
Many quality paint and wallpaper brands are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. By offering products with lower or zero-VOC content, paint brands are reducing harmful emissions and promoting healthier indoor environments. Additionally, lower VOC paints help decrease ozone pollution, contributing to the broader fight against climate change.
Some wallpaper manufacturers are taking steps to use sustainably sourced materials in their products. They source raw materials from responsibly managed forests or using recycled or renewable materials where possible. Sustainable sourcing helps to reduce the environmental footprint of these products by ensuring the materials used do not contribute to deforestation or overexploitation of resources.
Many brands are making efforts to improve the energy efficiency of their manufacturing processes, reducing their carbon footprints. This usually involves implementing more efficient machinery, optimizing production processes, using renewable energy sources, or even recovering and reusing waste heat from the production process.

Kids’ Room Makeover: Creative Ideas for a Fun and Inspiring Space
The bedrooms of our children are more than just spaces where they sleep. These rooms serve as their playgrounds, study corners, and personal sanctuaries. As such, undertaking a kids’ room makeover should be a delightful blend of creativity, practicality, and expression.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for a fun and inspiring children’s room, you’re in the right place. We’ve compiled a list of imaginative ideas to help you transform these spaces into vibrant, functional, and personal retreats for your little ones.
Fun with Colors
Colors play a pivotal role in a child’s environment. They can be used to stimulate, calm, or even foster creativity. When planning your kids’ room makeover, consider the psychology of colors.
For younger children, pastel shades like peach, baby blue, or light yellow can create a peaceful atmosphere. For older kids, vibrant hues like red, orange, or royal blue can invigorate the space and reflect their energetic nature.
Remember, it’s their space – encourage your children to participate in color selection. This not only makes the process fun but also gives them a sense of ownership.
A World of Wallpapers
Wallpapers can instantly add personality and a fun element to any room. Choose a wallpaper design that resonates with your child’s interests. From sports and princesses to animals and space exploration, there are countless themes to choose from. Opt for easy-to-clean, vinyl wallpapers – they are durable and can withstand the test of adventurous little ones.
Creative Storage Solutions
To keep a child’s room tidy and organized, storage is essential. Think outside the box – storage can be fun and decorative. Use painted crates for toys, install floating shelves for books, or utilize storage bins under the bed. Customizable pegboards can also be a great way to store craft supplies.
When choosing furniture, look for items that will grow with your child. Convertible furniture, such as a crib-to-toddler bed or a changing table that transforms into a dresser, are smart, long-term choices. Also, invest in a comfortable, age-appropriate study table and chair, as this will encourage good study habits.
Theming and Zoning
Create different zones in the room for various activities – a quiet corner for reading, a play area, and a study space. This makes the room multifunctional and teaches kids about the importance of organizing their activities.
To make the room even more personal, consider a theme for your kids’ room makeover. Themes can be based on your child’s favorite book, game, or even a dream destination. This can be reflected in the wall decor, bedding, or furniture.
Art and Creativity
Encourage your children to express themselves by dedicating a wall to their artwork. You can install a corkboard or use magnetic paint to create a changing gallery of their creations. Not only will this foster their creativity, but it will also make them feel proud and valued.
Lighting is an essential element of a kids’ room makeover. Besides the main overhead light, consider adding task lighting for the study area, a bedside lamp, or even string lights for a whimsical touch. Remember, a well-lit room is key to maintaining a cheerful atmosphere and is crucial for activities like reading and studying.
Don’t Forget the Ceiling
The ceiling is often the most overlooked part of a room. Since children spend a lot of time lying in bed, make the ceiling interesting. You could paint it a soothing color, add stick-on stars, or even use wallpaper to create a magical sky.
Crafting Wonderful Spaces for Your Kids
Remember, the best kids’ room makeover is one that reflects your child’s personality and interests while being functional and comfortable. It’s about creating a space where they can grow, learn, play, and dream.
At D’Franco Painting & Wallpaper, we understand how important this process is. Our experienced team is always ready to help you create a wonderful space for your kids. From choosing the perfect color scheme to picking the most durable wallpaper, we’re here to make your vision a reality.

Wallpaper Removal: All You Need to Know
Wallpaper adds a stylish and decorative touch to your home. Unfortunately, over time, it would start to peel and look unsightly. While removing wallpaper may not be the most exciting task to take on, with the right tools and techniques it can be a straightforward and rewarding process. Here’s a guide on all you need to know about wallpaper removal.
Why Remove Wallpaper?
There are several reasons why you should remove wallpaper from your walls. With time, wallpaper can become outdated and become an eyesore. If you plan on painting the walls, you must first remove the wallpaper for a smooth and even finish. Removing wallpaper will also allow you to inspect your surfaces for any damage or repairs that may need to be done.
What Tools and Materials Do I Need?
Before you start the wallpaper removal process, you need to gather the necessary tools and materials. Here are some essential items you will need:
Wallpaper scraper or putty knife
Wallpaper removal solution
Bucket or spray bottle
Drop cloths or plastic sheeting
The Wallpaper Removal Process
Prepare the room
First on the list is to clear the room of any furniture or objects. This will also be the step where you’ll need to cover the floor with drop cloths or plastic sheeting to protect it from wallpaper scraps or water (and ensure a quick cleanup).
Test a small area
Before you start the wallpaper removal process, test a small area of the wallpaper to see how it reacts to the removal solution. This will help you determine how much time and effort it will take to remove the wallpaper. If you bought different types of removal solutions, you’ll also be able to see which one is the most effective.
Apply the removal solution
Now that you’ve got the preparation steps down, it’s time to apply the wallpaper removal solution using a spray bottle or a roller. Let the solution soak into the wallpaper for the recommended amount of time before you start scraping.
Remove the wallpaper
Once the removal solution has absorbed into the wallpaper, use a wallpaper scraper or putty knife to gently scrape the wallpaper off the wall. Start at the bottom of the wall and work your way up. Also, be careful not to damage the wall surface.
Repeat the process
If the wallpaper is not coming off easily, repeat the process by applying more removal solution and waiting for it to soak in before attempting to scrape it off again.
Clean the wall
Once you have removed all the wallpaper, clean the wall surface with a damp sponge or cloth. Mix hot water, liquid dish soap, and some baking soda, and use this as your cleaning solution. This should be enough to remove any glue residue from the walls. Once done, allow the wall to try.
Sand the wall
Now that you’ve got a blank canvas, use sandpaper to smoothen out any imperfections or rough patches on the wall surface. This will prepare your walls for whatever you have planned for it next.
Removing wallpaper can be a straightforward process if you have the right tools and if you follow the steps above. But if you find the process too challenging, you can always get professional wallpaper removal services to make it easy for you.
